Message:

We had a wonderful speaker yesterday during our monthly IAAP lunchtime meeting.  As some of you know we are in the process of having a corporate IAAP chapter and we only need a few more members to be chartered with IAAP.

Dr. Crawford spoke to us about All Stress Up & Nowhere to Go.  He is a wonderful speaker and he is looking forward to having the opportunity to speak at other IAAP Chapter, Division or International meetings.

Dr. Crawford's Bio:

In addition to holding a doctorate in Psychology from the University of Houston, Dr. Crawford is a licensed psychologist, author of four books, organizational consultant and speaker. Over the last 25 years he has created over 3200 presentations for such organizations as Sprint, Shell, The Texas Medical Center, PBS, and many other organizations and professional associations nationwide. He has a unique perspective on achieving success that he calls "Life from the Top of the Mind" and he shares this philosophy with such humor and energy he is constantly referred to as the "Steve Martin" of corporate America.  In addition, his two PBS specials have been seen by over 15 million people and he has been quoted as an expert in such diverse publications as The New York Times, Entrepreneur, Working Mother, The Chicago Tribune, Investor's Business Daily, The Dallas Morning News, and Cosmopolitan just to name a few.

All Stressed Up & Nowhere to Go!

Everyone has heard the statistics . . . 75% of professionals describe their lives as "very stressful" and with the pace of change and increased demands on our time chances are good that it's just going to get worse!  Plus, even though everyone is experiencing more stress than ever, they are also tired of traditional "stress management" and people giving them simplistic answers to life's complex problems.

In this presentation, psychologist Dr. Bill Crawford addresses this problem by first explaining why this level of stress and frustration is so prevalent, and why so much of the advice about how to deal with these problems will never work!  Then, using a conversational style that is free of psychobabble, he uses the latest research on the brain to outline a concrete, comprehensive system for dealing with stress and accessing the clarity, confidence, and creativity necessary for success in today's world.

Message:
Hello, Southwest District Members.

Has it only been three weeks since we returned from EFAM in Boston?  Seems like only yesterday.  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and to say that I am very honored and excited to serve as your Southwest District Director.  I know that this will be an exciting year as we demonstrate our Passion for our association and Purpose to make IAAP a remarkable association!

This also marks the beginning of another year of the Pathways to Excellence program.  I hope all members, chapters, and divisions are setting their goals to achieve Excellence.  The criteria remains the same for this year.  Some of the criteria will make us stretch to achieve, but if it were easy, it would not mean so much.  Please let me know what I can do to help you achieve your goals.

My "door" is always open to all of you, so please email me, post on this blog, or if you would rather have a real-time conversation, telephone me any time.  I am here to serve you and I welcome the opportunity.

Best regards,
Dortha

Southwest District Members:

The following message was sent to me today from Melynda Porges with an update on a long time friend and member, Sally Nelson (see note below).

From Melynda Porges CPS/CAP

Sally Nelson CPS/CAP is presently in the hospital in the critical care unit and under hospice care.  There has been no "time line" discussed, however, the family and doctor agreed to keep her "comfortable" for the time she has left.  The family is requesting no visitors and no phone calls to the hospital room, however, cards and/or flowers would be most welcome.  Sally is in no pain - the medical staff is taking care of that and there are short time segments when she is lucid and able to communicate.  During those times, we will show her any cards and communicate any messages.  She is and never has been alone while in the hospital.  Her family or I have been keeping a 24 hour vigil since her admittance.

For those wishing to send cards and/or flowers her hospital address is:

Sally A. Nelson
Cox South Medical Center
3801 S. National Avenue
Room 524
Springfield, MO 65807
